At The Dower House, we let you bring the first two ingredients, and we are fantastic at providing the third and fourth!

The Dower House offers a unique setting, and the flexibility to have your own very personally unique and distinguished wedding ceremony and/or reception.

We have preferred suppliers we can suggest who can be relied on to cater for all your dreams... If you want to have an individually unique wedding, we can make it happen!

You will have exclusive use of the house, gardens, and ample parking. All your suppliers will have time to set up, while you’ll have plenty of time to relax with family and friends.

Our flexibility in using a choice of suppliers gives you options - YOU choose what you want, and therefore YOU control your budget!

And if you or any of your party arrive feeling stressed... we have brilliant life coaches available to deal with that too!

Country House Weddings

The unique atmosphere of The Dower House makes it a very special venue in which to hold your wedding.

The Dower House, a classic Victorian country house in the style of a Normandy ‘manoir’, is set in its own two and a half acres of beautiful gardens ample parking and woodland, which also makes it an ideal venue for themed or barbecue weddings!

Hexton is a tiny hamlet which seems a world away from the noise and bustle of the everyday stresses of your usual busy life, yet it is only 15 minutes drive from Hitchin, a wonderful country market town, with its access to the A1(M), and mainline train station (40 minutes to London Kings Cross).

We are also about fifteen minutes from the M1, and Luton Airport... Which makes it perfect for your guests to get here from just about everywhere!

Catering

We can provide a range of food menus. We specialise in Vegetarian and Vegan cuisine. Our wonderful chef, Anna, specialises in fresh home-cooked healthy food, and as we said, we also have a list of recommended outside caterers if preferred.

We will provide everything needed including table linen, glasses, plates, cutlery etc.

Venue

Set in the beautiful hamlet of Hexton this inspirational historic house, with free wi-fi throughout, and nearly 3 acres of secluded gardens creating a wonderfully relaxing yet romantic atmosphere. Once the home of the owner of Twickenham Film Studios and of an internationally famous writer and lyricist, The Dower House has hosted many memorable celebrity occasions: and many stars of the entertainment world have stayed here... so your guests could well find themselves staying in the David Soul or Petula Clark bedrooms!

Accommodation

The main function room is a spacious classically decorated drawing room seating up to 60 guests. We have marquees of most sizes for larger parties, and for dancing, if required. Attached to the drawing room is a large conservatory which looks out over the secluded garden.

Dining Room: Large classic Dining room in which the tables will be arranged to your specification.

Library: Has comfortable sofas and chairs, TV, and an extensive book collection

Bathrooms: 5 bathrooms with bath showers, 5 WCs, a shower room, and a cloakroom.

Bedrooms: The Aznavour Bridal Suite has an Emperor size bed in the gracious large bedroom, and has its own bathroom, and bride’s dressing-room. There are 9 other spacious bedrooms with double or twin beds, and 4 of these bedrooms can easily accommodate 3-4 single beds.
